Neurological Physiotherapy

What is it?

The term 'Neurological' refers to a range of conditions that involve the brain, spinal cord and nerves of the body. While the impact is noticed in the muscles, joints and movements of the body, these conditions come from changes to the neurological system. There are many types of conditions, and each individual can present in different ways. The unique nature requires an individualised approach to Physiotherapy.

How do we help?

At Future Focus Physio, we follow the best practice guidelines from the current research, combined with our experience in this unique area, to provide you with evidence-based management plans. Neurological Physiotherapy is different to the common branches of Physiotherapy, such as Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy. Due to the required focus on and understanding of the neurological systems, rather than the body itself, different approaches must be taken.

Neurological rehabilitation approach

Because neurological conditions are different to musculoskeletal conditions, a different set of principles are required to guide effective therapy. At Future Focus Physio, we use the Goal Directed Therapy Model ('GDT'), which is an activity-based approach to Physiotherapy. This means that we focus on the development of the movements required for achieving the clients' goals, instead of changing the structures themselves.
